License & API Key
The License screen is where you connect the Omnalingo plugin to your account. Without an active API key, the plugin can display translations already stored on your site but cannot scan new content or generate new translations.
Getting an API Key
Section titled “Getting an API Key”You need an API key to use Omnalingo. Every key is tied to your site’s domain.
- Free Forever key — Get one at omnalingo.com without creating an account. A free key lets you test the plugin with one target language and a limited number of AI-translated words.
- Pro key — Upgrade to Pro directly from within the plugin via the in-plugin Stripe flow on the License screen. Pro unlocks 130+ languages for manual editing, and AI auto-translation for each language requires a separate language pack (€3/month each, billed yearly).
All keys start with omna-. If your key doesn’t start with that prefix, it won’t be accepted.
Entering Your API Key
Section titled “Entering Your API Key”- Go to Omnalingo → Settings → License.
- Paste your API key into the field.
- Click Activate.
Omnalingo verifies the key with its servers and checks that it’s registered for your site’s domain. If the key is valid, your plan details appear immediately below the field.
What’s Shown After Activation
Section titled “What’s Shown After Activation”Once your key is active, the License screen displays:
- Plan name — your current subscription tier (Free Forever or Pro)
- Language limit — how many target languages your plan supports
- Translation usage — how many words you’ve translated this billing period and your plan’s limit
- Billing period — when your current period ends
This information is refreshed automatically each time Omnalingo contacts its servers. You can also click Refresh to pull the latest data on demand.
Upgrading Your Plan
Section titled “Upgrading Your Plan”To unlock more languages or additional AI auto-translation, upgrade to Pro directly from within the plugin using the in-plugin Stripe flow on this screen. Additional language packs (€3/month each, billed yearly) are also purchased from the License screen. After upgrading, click Refresh to update the plan information shown in the plugin. Your existing API key remains the same — no need to re-enter it.
What Happens When a Plan Expires
Section titled “What Happens When a Plan Expires”If your paid plan expires and reverts to the free tier:
- Existing translations stay visible. Visitors can still read translated content that was already generated.
- New translations stop working. Scanning and AI translation require an active plan or quota.
- Extra languages are paused. If you had more target languages than the free plan allows, those languages are hidden from visitors until you upgrade again. Your translation data for those languages is preserved.
Rotating or Replacing Your Key
Section titled “Rotating or Replacing Your Key”If you need to change your API key (for example, after a domain change or a security rotation):
- Click Disconnect on the License screen. This removes the current key from the plugin.
- Enter your new key and click Activate.
If your site’s domain has changed, your key may be bound to the old domain. In that case, generate a new key for the new domain from the License screen and enter that instead.
