How AI Translation Works
You never run, host, or configure any AI yourself. Omnalingo handles the whole pipeline — you just translate, and the results land in your database. Here’s what happens behind the scenes, and what keeps the quality high.
The translation flow
Section titled “The translation flow”When you translate — by turning on Auto Translate, hitting Translate page in the editor, or translating from a list — the text makes a quick round trip:
- The plugin sends your strings to the Omnalingo translation cloud.
- The cloud routes them to an AI model, which produces the translation.
- The result comes back and is stored in your WordPress database.
From that point on, the translation is served like any other content — no AI runs when a visitor loads a page, so there’s no speed penalty. (More on serving in How It Works.)
Translating a lot at once
Section titled “Translating a lot at once”When you translate many pages in one go — for example Enable Auto translate for all — the work runs while the Omnalingo tab stays open in your browser. You don’t have to watch it: leave it in a background tab and carry on with something else, and it keeps working through your site until it’s done. Just don’t fully close that tab mid-run — keeping it open (even in the background) is what lets it keep going.
The right model for each job
Section titled “The right model for each job”There isn’t a single AI behind Omnalingo. The cloud automatically picks the most suitable model for each translation, balancing quality and speed for the kind of text involved. You don’t choose a model and you don’t need to think about it — the best fit is selected for you, every time.
Quality keeps improving
Section titled “Quality keeps improving”Translation quality isn’t fixed at the version you installed. Because the translation work happens in the Omnalingo cloud, we continuously refine how the AI is guided — and those improvements reach every site automatically, with nothing for you to update. In practice, translations get better over time. To pick up the latest quality on a page you translated earlier, just re-translate it.
Translate once, reuse everywhere
Section titled “Translate once, reuse everywhere”Identical text is stored once and translated once. A footer, a button label, or an “Add to cart” string that appears on fifty pages is translated a single time and reused everywhere it occurs. This keeps wording consistent across your site and means repeated text never costs you extra words.
Word usage and the free trial
Section titled “Word usage and the free trial”- Free: a one-time 2,000-word AI trial. That’s meant for testing the quality or translating a small site — in practice a handful of pages (often somewhere around 3–9 typical entries). When it’s used up, AI translation pauses, but manual editing keeps working with no limit.
- Pro language pack: effectively unlimited for normal use. Each pack carries a generous yearly allowance that virtually every site stays well under — the License screen even labels usage simply as Fair Use, because there’s no meter to manage. One pack covers one language; stack more packs for more languages.
You don’t track words — the count shown on the Sitemap is informational. For the full plan, pricing, and billing picture, see Manual vs. AI Translation (and the Account & Licensing section).
Shaping the output
Section titled “Shaping the output”You can guide the AI’s results without touching any of the above:
- AI Context — tell it what your business is about.
- Translation Style — set the writing voice and how freely it rephrases.
- Glossary — lock specific terms to a fixed translation, or keep them untranslated.
