Manual vs. AI Translation

Omnalingo separates two things that are easy to confuse: adding a language so you can edit it by hand, and enabling AI translation for that language. Once the difference is clear, what you pay for makes a lot more sense.

Manual editing

Adding a language lets you type or paste translations yourself in the Live Editor, or hand the work to a translator through XLIFF. There is no limit on how many languages you add, and manual editing never uses AI and has no word cost.

AI translation

AI translation is what turns your content into another language automatically, and keeps it current as you publish. It needs a connected Omnalingo API key:

• Without a subscription, a connected key includes a one-time 2,000-word trial so you can judge the quality on your own pages.
• With the AI Translation Service, AI translation for a language is enabled by a language activation. The subscription includes one; further languages are €29 each, paid once.

An activation does not renew and does not expire. The subscription is what does the translating, and each activated language carries a generous yearly allowance.

Tip

There’s no meter to watch. The allowance — one million words a year per activated language — covers far more than almost any site produces, and the License screen labels it simply as Fair Use. See Translating Your Site for how word usage actually works.

What happens when the service lapses

If you never subscribe, or a subscription ends, Omnalingo never hides what you’ve already built:

• Every language stays editable, and the plugin keeps all of its features. There is no language limit to drop back to.
• Your activated languages go dormant: new and changed content is no longer translated automatically.
• Visitors keep seeing every existing translation. Nothing on the frontend breaks.
• Renew and each language resumes exactly where it left off — you never buy the same language twice.

Your translations live in your own WordPress database, so they’re always yours.
