Translation

After scanning has extracted all the text from your pages, the translation step sends those strings to Omnalingo’s cloud service, generates translations using AI, and stores the results in your database.

How to Start a Translation

To translate your entire site:

1. Go to Omnalingo → Bulk Translation.
2. Select the target language and the content types to include.
3. Click Start Translation.
4. Keep the browser tab open while translation runs.

To translate a single page:

1. Go to Omnalingo → Dashboard and find the page in the content list.
2. Click Translate next to the page.
3. The visual editor opens, showing your page with each string displayed alongside its translation.
4. Accept the AI translation, edit it manually, or request a new AI suggestion for individual strings.

What Happens When You Click “Start Translation”

1. Omnalingo finds all strings that do not yet have a translation for the selected language.
2. Your glossary rules are applied — terms marked “never translate” are kept as-is, and terms with forced translations are set before the AI sees the string.
3. Your AI context settings (business type, tone of voice, target audience) are included so the AI can tailor its output.
4. Strings are sent to Omnalingo’s cloud service in batches.
5. Translations come back and are saved to your database as they arrive — you do not have to wait for the entire run to finish.

Translation Priority

Omnalingo always respects this priority order when deciding which translation to display:

1. Your manual edit — if you have edited a translation by hand in the visual editor, that version is always used. AI translation never overwrites it.
2. AI translation — the translation generated by the AI and stored in your database.
3. Original text — if no translation exists yet, the original text is shown rather than nothing.

This means you can safely run bulk translation on a large site and then refine individual strings manually — your edits will not be lost on the next bulk run.

Glossary

Terms you add to the glossary are respected by the AI during translation. There are two types of glossary rules:

• Always translate X as Y — forces a specific translation for a term in the target language.
• Never translate X — keeps a term in the original language (useful for brand names, product codes, or technical terms that should not change).

Glossary rules are applied at translation time, not at display time. If you add or change a glossary rule after strings have already been translated, re-translate those strings to apply the updated rules.

AI Context (Pro plan)

If you have configured AI context under Omnalingo → Settings → AI Context, the AI uses that information to produce more appropriate translations. For example:

• A legal firm with “formal” tone will get more precise, conservative language.
• An e-commerce store with “friendly” tone will get warmer, more conversational translations.
• Providing your target audience description helps the AI match the right vocabulary level.

Retrying a Partial Translation Run

If a translation run is interrupted — by a network timeout, a server error, or closing the tab — it is safe to start it again. Omnalingo only sends strings that do not yet have a translation. Strings that were already translated successfully are not re-sent and are not re-billed.

Speed: No Impact on Your Site

Translations are stored in your database and served as a simple lookup when a visitor loads a translated page. There are no API calls, no AI processing, and no content scanning happening while visitors browse your site. Translated pages load just as fast as your original pages.

When a page caching plugin is active (recommended), the very first visitor after a translation update triggers the lookup — every visitor after that gets the cached HTML with zero additional overhead. See Performance for more detail.

Checking Translation Progress

The dashboard shows translation progress for each URL — how many words have been translated out of the total scanned words. You can also filter the content list to show only pages with untranslated strings, making it easy to find what still needs attention.
