What we compare
Six plugins, six ways to charge.
They all translate WordPress sites. What differs is what you pay for: a plugin licence, the words stored on your site, a yearly allowance of AI words, or a separate translation API.
Omnalingo
Our plugin. Free and complete for manual translation in unlimited languages. AI translation runs through a yearly service with one language included, and further languages are one-time activations. Translations stay in your own database.
Weglot
A hosted translation service with a WordPress plugin. Translations are stored on Weglot's servers, and plans are limited by the number of languages and by every translated word stored for your site.
TranslatePress
Translates your site visually from the front end and keeps translations in your database. Free for one language; the Personal plan adds unlimited languages and a yearly allowance of AI words, topped up with one-time packs.
WPML
The long-standing multilingual CMS for WordPress, with translations in your database. Its CMS plan includes a yearly allowance of AI words; beyond it, WPML bills per word as you go.
Polylang
A popular free plugin for manual translation. Polylang Pro adds AI translation through your own DeepL API account, so the AI part is a separate bill from DeepL.
Linguise
A cloud translation service. Like Weglot, its plans count every translated word stored for your site, with an unlimited top plan. Prices are published in US dollars only.

Good to know
Questions, answered plainly.
Which WordPress translation plugin is the cheapest?
It depends on how much you publish and how many languages you need. A plugin that is cheapest for a small site can be among the most expensive for a busy shop, which is why the calculator and the common site sizes above show a ranking for each case. Manual translation without AI costs nothing with Omnalingo and Polylang, and with TranslatePress for one language.
Why does the comparison look at four years?
Many plugins charge differently in the first year: free AI words, one-time language activations, word packs that never expire, or discounted renewals. Four years shows what a site really pays over time, not just the entry price.
Do word limits renew every year?
Not with every plugin. Weglot and Linguise count all translated words stored for your site, so the limit fills up as your content grows. Omnalingo, TranslatePress and WPML include a yearly allowance of AI words that renews with every year.
How do you count words?
We count the new words you publish per year, times the number of target languages, translated evenly over the year. A 1,000-word article translated into three languages counts as 3,000 words. Translating in occasional large batches can lower the cost with WPML and DeepL.
What does "On request" mean?
Some plans have no published price at very high volumes, for example Weglot above its largest plan, or DeepL beyond its Growth plan. The calculator shows "On request" there and leaves those plugins out of the ranking.
Is this comparison fair, given that Omnalingo made it?
We make Omnalingo, so we held ourselves to a few rules: only public prices, every source and assumption listed below, and every scenario shown, including the ones where another plugin is cheaper. If you spot a price that has changed, tell us and we will update it.
Method
Sources and assumptions.
Comparison is genuinly hard because of those different pricing structures but we tried our best to be fair
How we calculate
Prices are as published by each vendor on 8 October 2026, in EUR excluding VAT, billed yearly, for one website.
Linguise only publishes USD prices, converted at the ECB rate of 7 October 2026 (1 EUR = 1.1177 USD).
Words are new words per year times the number of target languages, translated evenly over the year. Translating in occasional batches can lower WPML and DeepL costs.
Weglot and Linguise limit the total words you have stored, so their plan grows with your content. Omnalingo, TranslatePress and WPML include AI words that renew every year.
WPML uses its recommended PTC engine at pay-as-you-go rates, including its rate carry-over.
Polylang translates with your own DeepL API account, and Polylang Pro renews at 50% off.
The 2,000 free AI words of Omnalingo and TranslatePress count once, so they only cover year 1 at the smallest setting.
Above 1,000,000 AI words per language a year, Omnalingo adds language activations (1,000,000 words each).
TranslatePress and WPML can also use your own Google or DeepL key, which is not modeled.
"On request" means no price is published at that size.
Omnalingo is made by Team Kriesi, the makers of the Enfold theme. Omnalingo is in beta and its prices are launch prices: the €29 language activation will later cost €39.
